September 11th is a very special day for Catalonia, as is the National Day of Catalonia, also known as La Diada.
For those unfamiliar with its history, the September 11th is the commemoration of the resistance offered by the city of Barcelona during a siege of fourteen months in 1714 during the War of Succession.
Throughout the day, there are demonstrations, concerts at Plaza Catalunya and information booths with a claiming or festive look are also taking place. Many citizens hang a senyera flag on their balcony. Catalan hymn Els Segadors is sung everywhere.
Around 7 pm there will take place the "Party for Freedom" in Arc de Triomf (at Lluís Companys Avenue, near Ciutadella’s Park).
Happy Catalonia’s Day!
