The Hostal Mare Nostrum, located in Carrer Sant Pau, 2 of Barcelona, always has been closely attached to Raval district. The Raval is multicultural neighborhood where very different backgrounds of people live together. Due to this it has always been sensitized to the social integration in the neighborhood, hiring staff from around the world.
Hostal Mare Nostrum has started a new social responsibility action in collaboration with the NGO Diandé Africa, an organization led by Mamadou Saliou.
Diandé Africa organization has several integration projects in Catalonia and other solidarity activities in Senegal, his country of origin. Hostal Mare Nostrum is being particularly cooperating with one of the actions of the organization done in the Raval. Called “The Barcelona Mamadou”.
It is a social bicycle route purporting to show a hidden reality of Barcelona, by exposing and provide information about social organizations and citizens‘ initiatives in the Raval neighborhood. The project also award young people at risk of social exclusion to carry out the activity.
The Hostal Mare Nostrum community engagement is called The Solidary Bag and it is integrated into the booking system on its website. There is a solidarity button on which the customer can click and collaborate with a donation of 3 €, with this charity project. The costumer will receive on their check-in at reception a hand cloth bag designed especially for this cause and also provide an explanation card with all information about the social welfare on collaboration with Diandé Africa and charity.
Hostal Mare Nostrum assume all costs created by this community programs and give entirely to the NGO Diandé Africa all the customer donations, reinforcing its community engagement work,attached again to Raval and social integration.
